Emma Frost – Task Force: Frost – Sime McDonald

PANEL ONE
On Emma Frost, gazing at the team of heroes assembled (off-panel), visibly unimpressed, eyebrow arched.

EMMA FROST (1)
I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an unimpressive line-up.

EMMA FROST (2)
(And I’ve teamed up with seven Madrox’s before.)

EMMA FROST (3)
(At least he/they had the decency to tone down the colour of his/their outfit.)

PANEL TWO
Assembled before Emma is: Spider-Man, Moon Knight, Deadpool, and Hawkeye. Deadpool has his hand on Moon Knight’s shoulder; Moon Knight’s head is bowed. Hawkeye’s at the forefront of the team, taking charge.

DEADPOOL (1)
Don’t listen to her, guys.
Chicks dig primary colours.

DEADPOOL (2)
(Sorry Moon Knight.)

MOON KNIGHT
Hmph

HAWKEYE
What’s this about, Em?
Deadpool told us to keep this gathering quiet.

SPIDER-MAN
Deadpool
Telling us to keep our mouths shut.

DEADPOOL (3)
It’s my new power: irony.

PANEL THREE
Emma’s arms are folded. Her back is to the heroes She’s admitting she has made a mistake, and it’s not easy for her to speak of her personal failings out loud. The other heroes listen. This time, Moon Knight’s got his hand on Deadpool’s shoulder, and Deadpool’s head is bowed solemnly.

EMMA FROST (1)
Months ago I eviscerated Sebastian Shaw’s memories.

EMMA FROST (2)
It was a necessary course of action.
I did it to protect myself and my fellow X-Men.

DEADPOOL (1)
Thanks

MOON KNIGHT
You’re not an X-Man.

DEADPOOL (2)
Hmph

EMMA FROST (3)
But I underestimated Shaw.
(Again.)

PANEL FOUR
On Emma, a shadow cast over her face.

EMMA FROST (1)
Shaw is aware someone has tampered with his memories.
He’s been gradually deciphering the secrets of his past.
Hunting down old friends and enemies.
Establishing allies, both old and new.

EMMA FROST (2)
He’s escaped my radar.
I don’t know where he is. How close he is.
And I can’t go to Scott with this. I can’t endanger the X-Men

PANEL FIVE
There is fear in Emma’s eyes.

EMMA FROST
You’re my only hope.

  1. Interesting team you put together, Sime. The last time I saw MK and DP together, Marc beat him to a pulp, so I'm not sure they'd be so buddy-buddy, but that's just being picky, so I'll let it pass... this time. I'm just happy that you put 4 of my favourite characters in a team together :)

  2. Danial, I swear, on Page Two I would've explained MK and DP's newfound friendship...!

  3. I loved this, Sime, it ties into current continuity, features some great characterisation, and most of all it's both fun and funny.

My only flicker of pedantry came at Deadpool's apology for hos primary colours ref - which should probably have gone to purple Hawkeye too, shouldn't it?

  4. Sime, this is one hell of an interesting page, I'll give you that.

Is Frost really saying what she's saying when she says she 'teamed up' with seven Madroxes, she seems like the sort of chick that would...y'know...

I think you nail the comedy parts here, I love MK telling DP he's not an X-Man.

Nice use of the word eviscerated.

And nice line about chicks digging primary colours...though Hawkeye is purple and that's not primary.

But the best part is, Sebastian Shaw going all Memento in the background of this plot idea. That's a script all on its own.

  5. Fair point regarding Hawkeye's purple; Deadpool's remark was really only designed as a jibe at Moon Knight , but would've been better if I'd maybe had another primary-coloured hero in his place.

@Ryan - Memento was indeed the inspiration behind the Shaw plot!

  6. Really liked the interaction here. However, my one nit pick would be Hawkeye calling Emma "Em". I figure they are not really comfortable with each other and he would still see her as a villain in a very Hawkeye way. Simply "Frost" would have been a better choice in my opinion.

  7. I agree with Matt. However, Deadpool is spot on. Great work.

Ok, now officially - Deadpool is the only character to have appeared in our scripts and NOT be a character of the week. When does that movie come out again?
