So who makes up this motley crew? Well, it's lead by Luke Cage, who has Songbird, Fixer, and Mach-V as his second-in-commands. Then there is Ghost, the tech guy, Juggernaut, the heavy-hitter, Moonstone, the powerhouse, and most recently Satana, the magic-user. Then, to give you guys even more pawns to play with, there is also the newer B-Team which includes Boomerang, Centurius, Mr. Hyde, Shocker, and Troll.
Despite all these characters, however, the star of the show, in my eyes at least, would have to be Man-Thing, who not only provides transport for the team by means of his teleportation through the Nexus of All Realities, but once there, stands by, ever so stoic, lending a hand only when absolutely necessary.
So there we have fourteen diverse characters to make use of, which I'm sure will result in equally diverse pages. Most importantly, however, in the spirit of the book, just go crazy and have fun!
I don't really have a handle on this team or any of the characters really. I think it kind of shows here. But I've been absent the last few weeks moving house so I thought I should get back in the saddle.

OPEN ON: a locker room somewhere in The Raft and a MEDIUM CLOSE shot on Luke Cage. He's dressed in a dark t-shirt and a pair of grey combat trousers.
He leans back against a locker, arms folded. He's talking to someone opposite him, off panel.
MAN (OFF PANEL): I'M GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY.

SUIT UP. WE'VE GOT A JOB TO DO.
Dan, good to have you back, man. This script isn't bad. You've steered clear of the flashy and dropped some character instead. It's this sort of pep talk that puts Cage in the leader seat on this team.
ReplyDeleteThis is some great character work right here, Dan. The build up for the reveal at the end works really well. I like the idea that Luke Cage is so dedicated to the team's idea of rehabilitation that he would step in to give some words of encouragement to Shocker. Nice piece.
ReplyDeleteI love Shocker. So bad, yet so good. You really have captured Cage's voice here. He doesn't sound like a generic hero, but an actual person. Kudos to that, Dan.
ReplyDeleteYeah, this feels like strong in-character work for both Cage and Shocker. I was expecting a twist... but sometimes the best twist is no twist.
