PANELS.
1.
Madrox stands at the left of the panel. He is in the Avengers HQ. Captain
America is talking to him.
CAP
AMERICA 1: Thank you for accepting the invitation to meet with me.
CAP AMERICA 2: I know you’re a busy man,
but this is a matter of the upmost importance.
2.
Madrox stands at the right of the panel. He is at the X-men Mansion. Cyclops
and Emma Frost are talking to him; Cyclops is in his X-men outfit but no headgear
on just his glasses.
CYCLOPS
1: It’s good to see you Jamie, I’m glad you came.
CYCLOPS 2: You know the situation, so
I’ll get to the point. Since m-day we have been dangerously close to
extinction. You’re the only mutant who has the power to swing the balance for us
in this new fight. We need you Jamie. The x-men need you.
3.
Same as 1. But now we pull back a bit to see Tony Stark is with Cap as they
continue to try and persuade Madrox to join them. Stark is in a grey suit.
CAP AMERICA: I know it seems like we are
asking a lot of you. To have you turn your back on your people…
STARK 1: …but who says they are your
people James? I know about Damian Tryp, he thinks you’re more than a mutant,
and we think you’re much more than anyone realizes.
STARK 2: We’ve been here before. Hero
fighting hero, and it’s never easy. But it comes down to this, whose side are
you on?
4.
Same as 2. Emma has moved closer to Madrox to add her case to try and sway him
to team with the X Men.
EMMA: Beast is already with them Madrox,
and who the hell knows which side of this thing Logan will fall on.
CYCLOPS: Emma’s right. Now more than
ever, each and every mutant needs to stand up and be counted.
EMMA: And we could count you more than
once.
5.
Same as 3. Cap and Tony look at Madrox hopefully.
CAP
AMERICA: We’d be privileged to have you join us.
STARK:
What do you say Mr. Madrox, are you Avengers material?
6.
Same as 4. Frost and Cyclops have moved closer to Madrox.
CYCLOPS:
So James, are you with us?
EMMA: Will you join the X-men?
7. A
page wide panel. Two Jamie Madroxs stand facing us. Both dressed in his
normal outift
each one slightly altered though. The one on the left wears a purple with white
details version, and on the chest is an avengers logo. On the right hand side
stands the other Jamie Madrox this one dressed in a black and yellow leather
version of the outfit, this one has X logos in each of the circles on the chest
design.
CAPTION MADROX: When a man is faced
with a tough decision he never truly knows which answer is the right one.
Shaun - this is a cool page that treats the character through the concept of the current event. I dig the idea to make Madrox relevant. I also like that this set up then forces me to think about all of the possible outcomes moving forward. That's always the sign of a good script.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's a great dilemma and well-execute page. But, and I say this entirely in the spirit of constructive criticism, you need to work on your proofreading, man. It's a face that one of the first things that'll get an editor shaking their head and chucking your submission on the Reject pile is inconsistent punctuation or little things like writing x-men rather than X-Men. It'd be a shame to see a great idea turned away at the starting gate just because of easily correctable stuff like this.
ReplyDeleteOn the plus side, Ben is now breathing a sigh of relief that I've got someone other than him to rag about this sort of thing. (And to be fair to Ben, he's improved greatly in recent months - if only to shut me up.)
Nice central idea that feeds into the current status quo.
ReplyDeleteMy only bugbear was the following from Cyclops:
" You know the situation, so I’ll get to the point. Since m-day we have been dangerously close to extinction. You’re the only mutant who has the power to swing the balance for us in this new fight. We need you Jamie. The x-men need you."
I might be reading it wrong (I'm incredibly tired right now) but it seems like Cyclops knows Jamie is aware of the situation but then goes on to explain it anyway.
Like I told you last week, I really like this page. The idea of seeing Jamie go through on both sides and then realizing that it's happening simultaneously does it for me every time. It's a great use of his powers for the sake of storytelling, and I'll never say no to that.
